Hundreds of area residents travel to Albany yesterday to voice support for natural gas development across the Southern Tier

Albany, N.Y., October 16—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) helped welcome members of the Steuben County Landowners Coalition, representatives of numerous other Southern Tier and statewide organizations and coalitions, and local leaders to Albany yesterday.

Hundreds of area residents traveled to the Capitol to voice their support for natural gas development across the Southern Tier.

ReCharge NY

RECHARGE NY-State Senator Tom O'Mara (R,C-Big Flats) recently joined New York Power Authority President and CEO Gil Quiniones (at podium in photo above) and Anchor Glass General Manager Michael Sopp (far right) to announce that Anchor Glass Container Corp., a Southern Tier glass container manufacturer, is receiving 6.6 megawatts in lower-cost electricity through the state's ReCharge NY (RNY) program that will allow the company to retain 340 local jobs and invest $37.2 million in its facility.

The state and local leaders made the announcement at the company's 100-year-old glass container production facility in Elmira Heights in Chemung County.

Rural Futures

Approximately 44 of New York’s 62 counties are designated as rural, and that's why the State Legislature saw fit to create one of our longest-standing commissions 30 years ago this year.

It's called the Legislative Commission on the Development of Rural Resources, and over the past three decades, it's been respected as voice for rural New York at the Capitol.

Senator O'Mara, father visit Schuyler County cheese maker -- help promote NYS cheese industry and highlight local Open Houses scheduled for Columbus Day weekend

Reminder: DEC authorizes youth deer hunting season over Columbus Day weekend

A reminder from the state Department of Environmental Conservation:

Albany, N.Y.--The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has confirmed that junior hunters ages 14-15 will be able to hunt deer during a special youth firearms deer season over Columbus Day Weekend this year, October 6 through October 8, 2012.

"Implementation of this youth deer hunt is a hallmark moment for New York hunters and represents continued efforts of DEC to engage more young people in nature and outdoor recreation," said DEC Commissioner Joe Martens.

September 29th 'National Prescription Drug Take Back Day' follows up New York's new I-STOP Law in fight against prescription drug abuse

Elmira, N.Y., September 28—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) reminded area residents today that Saturday, September 29, 2012 is "National Prescription Drug Take Back Day" and law enforcement agencies across the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions will operate drop-off centers for people to anonymously dispose of their unused and unwanted prescription drugs.

“It’s incredibly important that our law enforcement leaders are taking part in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.  Their ongoing leadership in this overall effort to combat the alarming rise of prescription drug abuse will make all the difference,” said O’Mara.

NY Farm Bureau to O'Mara: Welcome to our 'Circle of Friends'

Albany, N.Y., September 21—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) has been named as a member of the 2012 New York Farm Bureau "Circle of Friends" -- an honorary organization formed in 1990 by the state’s leading farm advocacy organization to recognize state legislators who strongly support agriculture. 

The Farm Bureau represents more than 35,000 member farm families and notified O’Mara of his selection earlier this week.

ReCharge NY sparks $37 million investment by Anchor Glass and helps century-old Southern Tier manufacturer retain 340 local jobs

Elmira Heights, N.Y.--State Senator Tom O'Mara (R,C-Big Flats) and Assemblyman Chris Friend (R-Big Flats) today joined local leaders and state economic develoment officials to announce that Anchor Glass Container Corp., a Southern Tier glass container maker, is receiving 6.6 megawatts in low-cost electricity through the ReCharge NY (RNY) program that will allow the company to retain 340 jobs and invest $37.2 million in its facility.
