Legislature gives final ok to DNA databank expansion

Albany, N.Y., March 15—The State Legislature earlier today gave final approval to agreed-upon legislation to expand New York State’s DNA databank, a move that law enforcement leaders locally and across New York State have called an essential modern-day crime-fighting tool.

Governor Andrew Cuomo and legislative leaders first announced the agreement late yesterday.

Legislature convening bipartisan budget conference committee process, O'Mara named to transportation committee

Albany, N.Y., March 13—Following yesterday’s approval of Senate and Assembly budget resolutions, the Legislature is convening today a joint, bipartisan budget conference committee process to begin public negotiations aimed at reaching legislative agreements on key segments of the 2012-2013 state budget.

Senate sets stage for final state budget talks, calls for immediate takeover of growth in local Medicaid costs

Albany, N.Y., March 12—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) said today that the Senate has approved a proposed state budget that accelerates Governor Andrew Cuomo’s call for the state to take over future growth in local Medicaid costs.

Lawmakers compare notes on state budget: O'Mara and Palmesano meet with Yates County legislators

Senate moves to cut costly new wage notice mandate on employers

Albany, N.Y., February 29—The State Senate today approved legislation co-sponsored by Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) to roll back a provision of a two-year-old state law that took effect this month and began imposing a new costly state mandate on private-sector employers across New York.

The Senate-approved legislation (S.6063) would immediately eliminate the new mandate.

O'Mara welcomes Women's History Month with announcement of Senate's 2012 'Women of Distinction' program, seeks local nominations

Elmira, N.Y., March 1—As a kickoff to New York State’s celebration of Women’s History Month throughout March, Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) announced today that he is accepting nominations for the Senate's 15th annual "Women of Distinction" program to honor local women making outstanding contributions to area communities.

The deadline for submitting a nomination is Friday, April 6th.
