O'Mara: Senate budget stays focused on tax relief and job creation; rejects closure of Monterey Shock and prohibits use of taxpayer dollars for college for inmates

Albany, N.Y., March 14—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats), who served on the Senate’s budget subcommittee on economic development and taxes, said that the Senate’s one-house Budget Resolution, approved early this morning, includes job-creating tax cuts and regulatory reforms, while keeping a strict lid on state government spending.

O'Mara, Palmesano will hold community meetings across the region on Saturday

Elmira, N.Y., March 13—New York State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning) today reminded area residents that they will hold several community meetings across the region on Saturday, March 15, 2014.

"We hope our constituents will take advantage of these community meetings to learn more about and contribute to this year’s challenges and debates over taxes, regulations, mandates, economic development, health care, education, and other key issues," O’Mara and Palmesano said in a joint statement.  “Community meetings offer the kind of direct give and take that’s fundamental to effective government.”

Senator O'Mara addresses local Monterey Shock supporters at the March 11th protest rally in Albany

Albany, N.Y., March 11—State Senator Tom O'Mara addressed local supporters of the Monterey Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility at a public rally in Albany today and said that the Senate Majority Coalition, in its one-house budget resolution scheduled to be unveiled and acted on this week, will reject Governor Andrew Cuomo's plan to close the facility.

O'Mara to welcome local Monterey Shock supporters at Albany protest rally today

Elmira, N.Y., March 10—State Senator Tom O’Mara will meet local Monterey Shock supporters traveling by bus from the Southern Tier to Albany today for a Capitol rally to protest Governor Andrew Cuomo’s plan to shut down several correctional facilities this year, including the Monterey Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility in Schuyler County.

O'Mara, other local, regional and statewide Second Amendment supporters address March 8th public rally in Horseheads organized by the Chemung County Federation of Sportsmen (UPDATED)

Elmira, N.Y., March 7--State Senator Tom O'Mara (R,C-Big Flats), Assemblymen Chris Friend (R-Big Flats) and Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning), Chemung County Executive Tom Santulli, Chemung County Sheriff Christopher Moss and a host of other area leaders and statewide Second Amendment defenders spoke at a public rally in Horseheads on Saturday, March 8th.

The rally at the Horseheads American Legion Post 442 drew was organized by the Chemung County Federation of Sportsmen and drew hundreds of supporters.

O'Mara kicks off Women's History Month by accepting local nominations for Senate's 17th Annual 'Women of Distinction' program

Elmira, N.Y., February 28—Kicking off New York State’s celebration of Women’s History Month throughout March, Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) announced that he is accepting nominations for the Senate's 17th annual "Women of Distinction" program to honor local women making outstanding contributions to area communities.

The deadline for submitting a nomination is Monday, March 24, 2014.
