Saturday and Sunday, June 27-28, are 'free fishing' days in New York State ~ Find out more ~ 'We're fortunate to offer great fishing throughout the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions,' said Senator O'Mara.

Elmira, N.Y., June 23—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) today reminded area residents and families that this Saturday and Sunday, June 27-28, have been designated as “Free Fishing Days” throughout the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions, and statewide.

O’Mara said that residents and visitors to the state can fish for free without a fishing license in any of  the region’s lakes, ponds, rivers and streams.

Albany, N.Y., June 19—The New York State Senate has approved legislation sponsored by Senator Tom O’Mara (R,I,C-Big Flats), chairman of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee, to establish an industry-sponsored “Paint Stewardship Program” to reduce a costly burden on local governments and taxpayers who are currently responsible for collecting and disposing of most post-consumer paint, create local jobs, and encourage environmentally sound recycling and disposal of unused paint in New York State.

The Addison Knights girls softball team won the Class C, New York State championship at Moreau Recreation Park in South Glens Falls on Saturday, June 13, 2015 -- the first state title in the school's history.

Senate unanimously approves Lyme disease awareness and prevention legislation co-sponsored by O'Mara, who says work of Senate task force will continue (UPDATED following Senate approval at 3:00 p.m.)

Albany, N.Y., June 16—The New York State Senate today unanimously approved two pieces of legislation co-sponsored by Senator Tom O’Mara (R,I,C-Big Flats) to bolster the state’s efforts to raise public awareness on the prevention of Lyme and other tick-borne diseases.

O’Mara, who serves as a member of the Senate Task Force on Lyme and Tick-Borne Diseases, said that the legislation is being approved as regional concerns about Lyme and other tick-borne diseases have dramatically increased over the past few years.

Senate unanimously approves legislation co-sponsored by O'Mara to help local police, DAs track and prosecute meth-related crimes ~ O'Mara calls it key part of broad effort targeting meth labs

Albany, N.Y., June 10—The New York State Senate today unanimously approved legislation co-sponsored by Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) to enhance the ability of local police and district attorneys to track and prosecute violations of restrictions on over-the-counter sales of cold medications that are key ingredients used in the manufacturing of methamphetamine.

The legislation has bipartisan support in the Legislature. It’s sponsored in the Assembly by Assemblyman Steven Cymbrowitz (D-Brooklyn) and is currently in the Consumer Affairs and Protection Committee.

Senate approves legislation co-sponsored by O'Mara to repeal key parts of NY SAFE Act (UPDATED)

Albany, N.Y., June 8—The New York State Senate today approved legislation co-sponsored by Senator Tom O’Mara (R,I,C-Big Flats) to repeal key provisions of the NY SAFE Act, which was signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo two years ago.

O’Mara was one of 18 state senators who voted against the SAFE Act when it was first approved in January 2013.
