Senate approves legislation co-sponsored by O'Mara to repeal key parts of NY SAFE Act (UPDATED)

Albany, N.Y., June 8—The New York State Senate today approved legislation co-sponsored by Senator Tom O’Mara (R,I,C-Big Flats) to repeal key provisions of the NY SAFE Act, which was signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo two years ago.

O’Mara was one of 18 state senators who voted against the SAFE Act when it was first approved in January 2013.

Albany, N.Y., June 8—Last Monday, New York State State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,I,C-Big Flats) and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,I,C-Corning) joined legislative colleagues and family members of murder victims, including the parents of Derrick Robie of Savona (Steuben County), to call for the approval of legislation they co-sponsor that would extend the time period that murderers and other violent felony offenders have to wait to apply for parole.

Senate approves legislation O'Mara co-sponsors to bolster local Medicaid fraud investigations

Albany, N.Y., June 2 —The New York State Senate has approved legislation co-sponsored by Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) to restore the incentive for local governments to combat abuse, fraud and waste in New York’s $60-billion-plus system of Medicaid.

Mayors, county executives and other local officials throughout the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions, and statewide, continue to point to Medicaid as their heaviest financial burden.

Monday’s news conference is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. in Room 130 of the Legislative Office Building

CAPITOL STUDENTS

Albany, N.Y.--State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) welcomed two area high school students to the State Capitol on Tuesday, May 19, 2015.  

Karilyn Rutledge, a senior at the Bradford Central School (Steuben County), and William Westlake, a senior at the Charles O. Dickerson High School in Trumansburg (Tompkins County), were among the nearly 30 high school students from across the state who participated in the 15th Annual “Students Inside Albany” (SIA) conference sponsored by the League of Women Voters of New York (LOWV/NY) State Educational Foundation, Inc.
