Governor okays permanent rifle hunting seasons in area counties

Albany, N.Y., July 22–Legislation sponsored this legislative session by New York State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats), Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R-C-I, Corning) and Assemblyman Chris Friend (R-Big Flats) to permanently authorize rifle hunting in Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben and Yates counties has been signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Albany, N.Y., July 19—Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed into law legislation sponsored by Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats), chairman of the Senate Elections Committee, to move New York’s presidential primary election day from the first Tuesday in February to Tuesday, April 24, 2012.

Governor okays legislation to strengthen law against texting while driving

Albany, N.Y., July 13—Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed into law legislation aimed at trying to prevent the thousands of deaths occurring on New York's and the nation’s highways as the result of what some are calling an epidemic of drivers who send text messages while behind the wheel.

A Basketball Legend

Albany, N.Y., June 21—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) joined his Senate colleagues earlier this week to welcome New York State high school basketball legend and Brigham Young University (BYU) star James Taft “Jimmer” Fredette, this year’s Player of the Year in men’s Division I college basketball, to the Senate Chamber in Albany where senators adopted a resolution commemorating Fredette’s basketball career.
