O'Mara: Budget increases state aid to local schools, supports local infrastructure, broadband development, agriculture, veterans and more

Albany, N.Y., April 1—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) said today that the 2015-2016 New York State budget includes higher state aid to local schools, a stronger commitment to local infrastructure and broadband development, and enhanced assistance to key economic sectors including agriculture.

After reaching the framework of an agreement on the new, nearly $142-billion state budget over the weekend, the Legislature put the finishing touches on the plan last night and the new budget was delivered to Governor Andrew Cuomo to be signed into law.

O'Mara: New state budget expands support for treating veterans suffering from Post-traumatic stress disorder ~ Corning doctor has been driving force behind development of innovative, successful treatment program

Albany, N.Y., March 30—In early March, State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) joined several of his Senate colleagues to call for increased state funding to support the expansion of a groundbreaking treatment program for military servicemen and servicewomen suffering from Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

The 2015-2016 state budget, which will be approved by the Legislature this week and signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo, will include $800,000 to help expand the initiative, O’Mara said today.

Breaking News: St. James Mercy Hospital receives critical transition funding ~ Listen to Sen. O'Mara's reaction on AM 1480 WLEA

HORNELL — St. James Mercy Hospital has been awarded $7.5 million under the Health Facility Restructuring Loan (HFRL) program.

The interest-free loan, which is jointly administered by the Dormitory Authority of New York State (DASNY) and the New York State Department of Health, will allow the hospital to continue providing services after March. St. James Mercy Hospital has been relying on funding under the Interim Access assurance Fund (IAAF) since July 1, 2014.

Legislature's joint, public budget conference committees begin meeting today to reach agreements on a final state budget ~ O'Mara named to two subcommittees: Environment-Agriculture-Housing, and Economic Development

Albany, N.Y., March 16—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) has been named by the Senate leadership to serve on the Legislature’s joint budget conference subcommittees on Environment/Agriculture/Housing, and Economic Development, as the next step in New York’s budget adoption process gets underway in earnest this week at the Capitol.

The Legislature’s 10 individual, joint budget conference subcommittees will begin holding public meetings today to settle Senate and Assembly differences over the 2015-16 New York State budget.  The conference committee process more fully set the table for final budget talks with Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Area conservation students, leaders meet with Senator O'Mara in Albany

Albany, N.Y., March 13—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) recently met with a conservation contingent from the Greater Southern Tier BOCES (GST BOCES), and local soil and water conservation leaders who were in Albany to promote their priority issues for 2015.

GST BOCES was represented by Don Mac Naughton, a Conservation instructor in the Career and Technical Education Department, and students Derrick Griffith and Zack Parker, who area also members of the Future Farmers of America (FFA).
