“As the immediate relief efforts are underway and ongoing in Haiti, it is my understanding that the Governor has instructed New York State to work with our federal officials and local officials on the ground to identify resource needs. Even as our resources are mobilized as quickly as possible, it will take hours -- and in many cases days -- to get all of our first-responders and resources on the ground in a safe and orderly manner.

Senate Democratic Leadership Appoints Two Republican Senators To Major Committee Chairmanships

Senate Majority Conference Leader John L. Sampson, today appointed two Republican Senators to major committee chairmanships. Senator Thomas P. Morahan (R-New City) was appointed Chairman of the Committee on Mental Health and Hygiene, and Senator George Maziarz (R-Newfane) was appointed Chairman of the Senate Committee on Energy and Telecommunications.

(ALBANY) New York State Senator Thomas Morahan today announced that the New York State Council on the Arts will be providing $ 190,613 in grants for cultural programs in Rockland County.

The following organizations have been approved for project funding:

Arts Council of Rockland, Inc., located in Spring Valley $94, 518

Historical Society of Rockland County, located in New City $8, 900

Hudson Vagabond Puppets, located in Blauvelt $9, 000

Penguin Players Ltd, located in Thiells $18, 067

Rockland Center for the Arts, located in West Nyack $47, 045

(ALBANY) New York State Senator Thomas Morahan today announced that the New York State Council on the Arts will be providing $ 18,230 in grants for cultural programs in Orange County.

New York State Senator Thomas P. Morahan joined Senator Dean Skelos and other Senate colleagues to push for legislation, supported by District Attorneys and concerned advocates throughout the State, that would fix a dangerous problem created by state legislators who voted to change the State’s drug laws as part of the 2009-10 state budget. Morahan voted against changing the State’s drug laws as well as the 2009-10 state budget.

SENATORS TO LAUNCH REGIONAL TASK FORCE ON MTA

Hudson Valley State Senators today proposed a regional taskforce to summarize the current MTA services offered to Hudson Valley area residents in Dutchess, Orange, Putnam and Rockland Counties and make specific recommendations for key, specific, desired improvements to MTA service in the Hudson Valley.

The Governor’s State Budget took away your STAR Rebate Check. You and other homeowners in Rockland and Orange Counties depend on these checks to help pay your bills. I voted against the State Budget because it took away an average Basic STAR Rebate Check of $692.00 and an average Enhanced STAR Rebate Check of $705.00. The same State Budget raised taxes for you and other families an average of $2,400.00.
