Senator Kennedy Releases Statement on Ethics Reform Agreement

Details of agreement on ethics reform announced at Monday press conference 

ALBANY, N.Y. – Senator Timothy M. Kennedy, D-58th District, released the following statement regarding the ethics reform agreement that Governor Cuomo announced Monday afternoon. 

“Over the past 10 years, more Albany politicians have been indicted or have resigned amid scandal than have lost general election. Western New Yorkers are sick and tired of seeing elected officials dragged out of office in handcuffs.  Cleaning up Albany has been a top priority for me, and I’m very pleased that an agreement on ethics reform has finally been reached.

Senator Kennedy Announces Passage of Comprehensive Ethics Reform Legislation

Kennedy co-sponsors legislation, bill passes Senate by a vote of 61-0

ALBANY, N.Y. – Senator Timothy M. Kennedy, D-58th District, announced the New York State Senate has passed comprehensive ethics reform legislation, which takes steps to finally bring real change to Albany.

The Public Integrity Reform Act of 2011 – which Senator Kennedy co-sponsored – unanimously passed the Senate by a vote of 61-0. The Assembly also passed the legislation, which now awaits the Governor’s signature to become law.

State Doles Out $600,000 Each Year for Corrupt Albany Politicians’ Pensions; Kennedy Pushes Bill to Take Away Disgraced Lawmaker Pensions

Since 1999, 20 Albany politicians have resigned or lost elections after run-ins with the law or ethical failures – and that number may climb higher after the recent political scandals.    

In total, the state has paid out $4.3 million in pension costs to 14 of those 20 individuals. 

Kennedy: Crooked politicians shouldn’t be able to pay their debt to society behind bars while simultaneously being paid by the very society they ripped off. It needs to stop.
