Senator fights for increased transportation aid for Western New York

ALBANY, N.Y. – At the joint legislative budget hearing held Monday to discuss transportation and infrastructure, Senator Timothy M. Kennedy, D-58th District, pressed officials from the Department of Transportation for answers on issues critical to the economic future of Western New York.  

When it was his turn to question the DOT, Senator Kennedy pushed to get Western New York its fair share of transportation aid to revitalize the region’s aging infrastructure.

Senator Timothy M. Kennedy, D-58th District, advanced his fight to secure increased transportation aid for Western New York, at the confirmation hearing for Joan McDonald, Governor Cuomo’s appointee to take over the Department of Transportation.

When the DOT committed a human error in the calculation of the region’s funding formula, they ended up shortchanging Western New York to the tune of approximately $167 million.  Senator Kennedy, a member of the Transportation Committee, urged Commissioner McDonald to fix the funding disparity that Western New York has endured as a result of the miscalculation.

Senator Kennedy Announces Construction Resumes on South Park Avenue

Work restarted Monday, revitalization project expected to be completed in June

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Senator Timothy M. Kennedy, D-58th District, announced that work has resumed on South Park Avenue, as crews move toward the completion of the construction component of the South Park Avenue Revitalization Project.

With about 70 work days remaining in the 300-day project, it is expected that the work will be completed during the month of June – barring any unforeseen delays like poor weather. The project officially restarted Monday with workers beginning the process of streetlight installation.

Senate Passes Legislation to Strengthen Law Against Texting While Driving

Safety advocate Kelly Cline applauds Senate, turns focus of Families Against Texting While Driving to getting the job done in Assembly

ALBANY, N.Y. – Senator Timothy M. Kennedy, D-58th District, announced Tuesday the Senate passed legislation (S.998B | A.6174A) to strengthen state law against texting while driving, by a vote of 57-3. The bill – co-sponsored by Senator Kennedy – will make it a primary offense to text while operating a vehicle.

Cline, Kennedy formed Families Against Texting While Driving to push issue forward

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Senator Timothy M. Kennedy, D-58th District, and Kelly Cline, a West Seneca mother and relentless safety advocate, commended Governor Andrew Cuomo for introducing a program bill on distracted driving.
