Senator Stavisky and Assemblymember Titus Present Domestic Violence Resolution to Advocates

(Queens , NY)  Senator Toby Ann Stavisky and Assemblymember Michele Titus stood on the steps of Queens Borough Hall and presented advocates for victims of domestic violence with a recently passed New York State Legislative Resolution. This resolution, A313/S1322, made April 22nd “Domestic Violence Awareness Day” in the State of New York, and as a part of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week.

Senator Stavisky Presents 5th Grader with Award for Earth Day Project

(Bayside, NY)  Senator Toby Ann Stavisky presented 5th Grader Margaret Sakar with an award honoring her 1st place finish in the student Earth Day Art Contest. More than 60 students participated, and Ms. Sakar, of the Holy Martyrs Day School in Bayside, was judged the winner.

Senator Stavisky Speaks at West Point Day

On Thursday, April 26, 2012, the Senate played host to cadets from the United States Military Academy as part of West Point day at the Capitol.  Senator Stavisky attended a reception in their honor and took to the floor to welcome the cadets.  She told the cadets that although they come from 210 years of history and tradition, they “represent the future, not just the past.”  She went on to praise them for their commitment to the country and thank them for their visit.  “You serve our country abroad, and at home. In peace, and in war," she told the cadets, "And for that you honor us today by your presence."

Senator Stavisky Meets with Charles B. Wang Community Health Center

On Monday, February 5th, State Senator Toby Stavisky met with representatives of the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center, which provides clinical service to 40,000 New Yorkers, including 16,000 in Flushing alone. She was presented with a book showing the growth of the Wang CHC over its 40 year history, during which she has been a strong champion and supporter.

Sen. Stavisky visits John Bowne HS with State Agriculture Commissioner Darrel Aubertine

NYS Agriculture Department Agriculture Commissioner Darrel Aubertine and Sen. Toby Ann Stavisky examine freshly laid eggs in the chicken coop at John Bowne High School in Flushing during a tour of the grounds.  Commissioner Aubertine is a sixth generation farmer from Cape Vincent, NY, and met with students in the school's Future Farmers of America chapter, which placed sixth in the country at the FFA National Convention earlier this month.

Sen. Stavisky visits Russia

State Sen. Toby Ann Stavisky recently returned from a nine-day trip to Russia, where she was a member of a bipartisan legislative delegation on a cultural and economic mission.  The legislators paid their own way.  They visited the cities of Kazan, which is the capital of the Federated Republic of Tatarstan, St. Petersburg and Moscow.  Here, the group visits the Grand Choral Synagogue of St. Petersburg, the second-largest synagogue in Europe.  It was restored in 1999 with a $5 million donation from the Safra family.

Sen. Toby Ann Stavisky recently returned from a nine-day trip to Russia and the Republic of Tatarstan, where she visited Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Kazan.  She donated to the Rego Park Library three books about Tatarstan’s capital city, Kazan, written in Russian and English, so that the community may learn more about the city and region.  With her in the photo is Queens Library CEO Thomas Galante.

Sen. Stavisky tours the 9/11 memorial garden planted by the Korean-American Senior Citizens Society of Greater NY with KASCSGNY President Kyong Shik Kim.  The garden is a 50-foot by 100-foot flower bed planted in the shape and colors of the American flag, and the Korean-American Senior Citizens Society displayed photos, student essays and victims' names in memory of those who died on Sept. 11, 2001.

Stavisky spoke at the Korean American Filial Piety Society's annual awards celebration in Flushing, praising the values Koreans and Korean Americans have brought to Flushing -- respect for elders and a strong sense of family.  She awarded certificates to the leadership of Korean American Filial Piety, Inc.
