Senator Stavisky writes letter to Mayor Bloomberg criticizing plan to lay off teachers while spending up to $5 million to recruit new ones

This week the news has been full of Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s plan to cut as many as 6,700 teachers in an effort to plug a $5 billion budget deficit. This will have an undeniable effect on our city’s children and the quality of the education they receive, and their prospects for a brighter future.

Then the Daily News printed a story about the Department of Education seeking approval for a $5 million per year contract to recruit new teachers

Sen. Stavisky attends the ribbon-cutting ceremony at PS 144

Sen. Stavisky and Assemblyman Andrew Hevesi attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for PS 144's new playground.  The children made cards for the elected officials thanking them for the "awesome" facilities.

Sen. Stavisky addresses preschoole​rs at JCCA

Sen. Stavisky attended the Spring Breakfast at the Jewish Child Care Association's Forest Hills Child Care Center.  The children sang songs about famous painters whose artwork they have studied. 

Sen. Stavisky visits John Bowne HS with State Agriculture Commissioner Darrel Aubertine

NYS Agriculture Department Agriculture Commissioner Darrel Aubertine and Sen. Toby Ann Stavisky examine freshly laid eggs in the chicken coop at John Bowne High School in Flushing during a tour of the grounds.  Commissioner Aubertine is a sixth generation farmer from Cape Vincent, NY, and met with students in the school's Future Farmers of America chapter, which placed sixth in the country at the FFA National Convention earlier this month.
