“Enjoy the Super Bowl, but be safe and don’t drink and drive”

Senator Toby Ann Stavisky would like to remind all New Yorkers that Super Bowl weekend (February 6th and 7th) also happens to be one of the biggest times of the year for alcohol related accidents. Urging safety, Senator Stavisky asks football fans to plan ahead, designate a driver, and encourage friends and family to be safe during this year’s celebrations.

Public Hearing: Public Hearing on Swine Flu Preparedness on College Campuses

In April 2009, the United States government declared a public health emergency following outbreaks of H1N1 Influenza A, also known as the “Swine Flu.” Since then, the 2009 H1N1 influenza has been escalated to Phase 6 worldwide pandemic alert level. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has indicated that many of the confirmed cases of the 2009 H1N1 Influenza have been in healthy young adults aged 19 to 24.

First published in print: Sunday, July 12, 2009  As the State University of New York copes with two years of state funding cuts totaling $334 million, state Sen. Toby Stavisky raises a question worth asking: Why, at a time when SUNY has $450 million in cash, has it apparently rebuffed the Paterson administration's proposal to tap some of that money to offset those budget cuts?  It turns out that SUNY has some answers to those questions. But the official word from Chancellor Nancy Zimpher's office is that she won't discuss the matter in public.
