(Bayside, Queens) Senator Tony Avella hosted an awards ceremony today for six students chosen as winners for this year’s School Essay Contest. The contest, initiated by the Senator and titled “What are your suggestions for the new Mayor,” was open to students of all grades in order to create more student involvement and awareness in the governmental process as well as their community.
(Holliswood, Queens) On Thursday, April 10th, State Senator Tony Avella donated four matzos packages to the Young Israel of Holliswood Jewish Center in celebration of Passover, which begins on Monday, April 14th at sundown.

Architect Ted Hinz, center, was honored by the Bayside Historical Society and the state on Saturday as Mr. Bayside during Bayside Day at Fort Totten.
BHS President Paul DiBenedetto, left, said his group paid tribute to Hinz, who was one of the founders of the historical group 50 years ago, was instrumental in restoring the BHS headquarters and creating PS 41.
State Senator Tony Avella attended the Bayside Historical Society’s Bayside Day Commemoration and Festival, where he was pleased to present the official Bayside Historical Society certificate designating Mr. Theodore Hinz as ‘Mr. Bayside’.
