Forum/Town Hall: SENATOR AVELLA ANNOUNCES PUBLIC FORUM TO ADDRESS ANIMAL PROTECTION ISSUES

Senator Tony Avella will be hosting a Public Forum on Friday, January 17, 2014 from 10:30AM – 2:30PM in the Senate Hearing Room at 250 Broadway, New York, NY to address animal protection issues.

 

Avella, a long time animal protection advocate, states “This Public Forum will be an opportunity to hear from animal protection advocates about the many ways we are failing to protect animals in this state and to discuss real solutions that will result in actual changes that impact these animals’ lives.” 

 

Avella is reaching out to numerous animal protection advocate groups as well as inviting the public at large to testify at the Public Forum.

Loretta Weiss

Loretta Weiss served in the United States Army with distinction from 1942-1945 during World War II, and went back to serve in the Korean War and in Vietnam, from September 1950 until her discharge in February 1975, as a Supply Sergeant. In addition to her other duties, she performed confi dential prep clearance as well.

Wanda Beck Antosh

Wanda Beck Antosh’s quest has been to make her Bowne Park community a better place to live. A life-long resident of Flushing, Ms. Antosh has made it her mission to be aware of pressing community needs and take action. Attending Public School 107 and Bayside High School, Ms. Antosh went on to study art at New York University.

Ms. Antosh’s involvement with the Browne Park Civic Association evolved because of her genuine concern for her neighborhood and community and its quality of life. As president of the Civic Association for the past five years, Ms. Antosh has led the fight to clean up Bowne Park. Working with the 109th Police Precinct, she continues to ensure that her community has a strong police presence.

AVELLA HONORED AT THE ITALIAN AMERICAN LABOR COUNCIL 71ST ANNIVERSARY FOUR FREEDOMS DINNER DANCE

On October 19th, 2012 Senator Tony Avella was honored at the Italian American Labor Council’s 71st Anniversary Four Freedoms Dinner Dance.  Senator Avella received the Geraldine Ferrara Legislative Achievement Award from the Italian American Labor Council “in recognition of his drive, dedication and commitment to the people which he serves.”

AVELLA HONORED BY NEW YORK CITY RETIRED TRANSIT POLICE OFFICERS’ ASSOCIATION

 

On October 3rd, 2012 the New York City Retired Transit Police Officers’ Association honored Senator Tony Avella at their annual membership meeting.  Ed Russo, president of the association, presented Senator Avella with a plaque “in recognition and appreciation of your dedication and continued support of the men and women of law enforcement.”

New York Times Editorial: A Freebie Too Far

Most tennis fans can only dream about receiving the kind of thick, cream-colored invitation that State Senator Tony Avella of Queens got recently in the mail. The United States Tennis Association was pleased to invite him and a guest to view this year’s tennis championships, which begin Aug. 27. They could sit in the President’s Suite. They could pick “one session of your choice” during the first week. This is tennis at its best, viewed from the best seats in Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Robert W. Armenio

First Lieutenant Robert W. Armenio was a United States Marine Corps medevac helicopter pilot who earned 33 air medals during the Vietnam Conflict.

After completing a degree in business administration from Georgia Southern College, 1st Lt. Armenio graduated from Officers’ Candidate School at Quantico, Virginia, and enlisted in the Marines in 1967.

Angela Augugliaro

Angela Augugliaro moved into Bellerose in 1977 and became involved in Queens Colony Civic Association as a way to get to know her new neighbors and learn about her new community. Along with her husband, she raised three girls, and it was while her children were young that she became involved as a Parent Teacher Association board member and Girl Scout Brownie Troop leader.
