Members of the NYS Conference of Black Senators sent messages of prayers and support today, to families and friends that have been affected by the tragic earthquake that took place south of Port-Au Prince, Haiti yesterday. “The Haitian community is a very vibrant and important part of our districts and we will do everything possible to aid them during this painful time”, Senator Ruth Hassell-Thompson of the 36th District (Westchester and Bronx), Chairwoman of the NYS Conference of Black Senators (CBS).

Governor Cuomo's 2012 Executive Budget and Reform Plan Outlines Vision to Continue Building a New New York

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today unveiled his 2012-13 Executive Budget and Reform Plan, which expands on the historic reforms enacted last year to continue building a New New York. As a result of the tough decisions and bipartisan cooperation of the past year, the State is able to close the current deficit without broad cuts, new taxes, fees or gimmicks. In addition, the Governor’s Executive Budget proposes major reforms to reduce the cost of government for taxpayers, implements accountability in our schools to put students first, and puts the State in a position to leverage billions of dollars in private sector investment to grow the economy and create jobs.

Governor Cuomo and Legislative Leaders Announce Agreement on 2012-13 State Budget

Governor Cuomo released the following announcement on March 27, 2012:

The Budget continues the Governor’s commitment to fiscal responsibility while creating jobs and strengthening communities across the state. It closes a multi-billion dollar deficit with no new taxes, fees or gimmicks, limits spending growth to two percent or below for the second year in a row, and launches the New York Works Task Force to invest billions of dollars to rebuild the state's roads, bridges, parks, and other infrastructure and create tens of thousands of jobs.

Governor Cuomo Announces New York State to End Finger Imaging Requirement for Food Stamp Recipients

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that New York State will end the finger imaging requirement for all food stamp applicants and recipients, helping simplify the application process and removing a barrier to reducing hunger among the state’s children and adults.
