Larkin Comments On Governor’s Plan To Give Illegal Immigrants N.y.s. Driver’s Licenses

 

As a retired Lt. Col. in the United States Army and as a member of the New York State Standing Committee on Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs, I strongly oppose the plan by Governor Spitzer to grant New York State driver’s licenses to illegal aliens.

The driver’s license is the basic identification document for nearly everyone in America.

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) today reacted to Governor Eliot Spitzer’s modified proposal to give New York State driver’s licenses to illegal aliens.

Senator Larkin said, "The Governor's new alien license plan still won't keep us safe. Governor Spitzer has made an abrupt U-turn on his plan to provide New York State licenses to illegal aliens. However, he is still insisting that they receive legitimate licenses.

Senate Passes New Bill To Increase Workers' Comp Benefits For Private Hospital Workers, Emts, Paramedics Dispatched To Ground Zero On 9/11

Larkin Announces Environmental Conservation Funding For Ulster County

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) today announced that the Catskill Center for Conservation and Development in Ulster County will receive a $7,600 grant from the state.

The Center will use this funding to develop and implement a habitat management plan designed to maximize grassland habitat.

Funding for the grant was generated from the sale of the Department of Environmental Conservation’s (DEC) Habitat Access Stamps, a program which the state began in 2004.

Senate Passes Bill Today To Prohibit Driver's Licenses For Illegal Aliens

The senator announced today that Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ulster County, Inc. has been awarded $20,000 so that the organization can keep up with the demands of a growing program and continue to match young people in need with caring adults who will serve as mentors in these children’s lives.

Senator Larkin Secures $105,000 State Grant For The Greater Hudson Valley Family Health Center

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) has secured a $105,000 state grant for the Greater Hudson Valley Family Health Center located in the City of Newburgh.

The funding will be put toward the design and construction of a new state-of-the-art facility for the Greater Hudson Valley Family Health Center, a federally qualified health center and state licensed diagnostic and treatment center serving more than 16,000 patients and their families.

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) today reminded Basic STAR recipients of Orange and Ulster Counties that they must apply to the New York State Department of Taxation & Finance in order to receive their STAR property tax rebate check for the 2007-08 school tax year.

The Tax Department will be mailing application packets to Basic STAR homeowners in Ulster County the week of September 10th; and Orange County residents will start receiving their packets the week of September 17th.

Senator Larkin Brings $30,000 In State Grants To City Of Newburgh

In his efforts to obtain state funding for special projects in the City of Newburgh, Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) has successfully secured $30,000 in grants for the City to help promote local heritage projects.

Larkin was able to secure a $20,000 grant for the City to purchase a trolley so that it can continue to offer free guided tours of many of Newburgh’s historic sites for residents and visitors to enjoy. Currently, the City is renting a trolley for this purpose.

Larkin Announces Meeting Of Senate Committee On Racing, Gaming And Wagering On September 12, 2007

 

The Senate Committee on Racing, Gaming, and Wagering will hold a meeting on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at 11:00 AM in Hearing Room A of the Legislative Office Building in Albany, New York to review the Governor’s anticipated recommendation for the State Racing Franchise. Ultimately, the Legislature must select the next racing franchise to manage the race tracks at Aqueduct, Belmont Park, and Saratoga by December 31, 2007.
