Leptondale Elementary School teacher Karen Psilopoulos, her fourth grade students and their chaperones toured the New York State Capitol recently and met with Senator Bill Larkin on the Million Dollar Staircase.
Sister Yliana Hernandez Selected as 2012 "Woman of Distinction"
Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) today honored Sister Yliana Hernandez of Newburgh at a special ceremony held in Albany as one of the New York State Senate's 2012 "Women of Distinction."
Sister Yliana was honored for her outstanding contributions to education and for her commitment to helping others in her local community. Sister Yliana is currently the principal at the Nora Cronin Presentation Academy, a private middle-school in Newburgh, which instructs 60 girls with a combination of full-time and volunteer teachers.
Senator Bill Larkin welcomes Anthony Mancinelli, his son Robert Mancinelli, and granddaughter Lisa Tersillo, to the Senate Chamber in Albany to honor Mr. Mancinelli upon his designation by Guinness World Records as the world's oldest practicing barber. Mr. Mancinelli has been cutting hair since he was 12 and in 2007 he officially broke the Guinness World Record for oldest practicing barber and he has been breaking his own record ever since. At the age of 101 he has no plans of retiring in the near future.

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) and the New York State Senate honored New Windsor resident Anthony Mancinelli for his accomplishment of holding the Guinness World Record for oldest practicing barber by passing a Legislative Resolution lauding his achievement.
"Tony is the best," said Senator Larkin. "It is my great pleasure to present him with a Senate Resolution honoring his Guinness World Record and I urge him to keep going for many years," said Larkin.
In an effort to cut down on the time the Newburgh City Court has to spend addressing parking tickets, Senator William Larkin (R-C Cornwall-on-Hudson) and Assemblyman Frank Skartados (D-Milton) announced the passage of legislation that will allow Newburgh to establish an administrative tribunal to handle all parking tickets.
"This is a great day for the City of Newburgh," Senator Larkin said. "It has taken over a decade, but after all these years I am very happy the legislation has finally passed both houses of the Legislature. I look forward to the Governor signing the bill into law and allowing the City to finally begin recouping the money they so desperately need."
The New York State Library, teaming up with the more than 1,100 public libraries and neighborhood branches statewide, has announced the kick-off of "Summer Reading at New York Libraries," the 2012 New York State summer reading programs. Through these programs, young people will have the opportunity to access the vast resources of New York’s public libraries to support their summer reading and to gain recognition for what they achieve.
Senator Larkin joins James O'Donnell (Deputy County Executive) and Bob Armistead (Chairman, Orange County IDA) in presenting Mr. Petro with a Senate Resolution honoring his many years of work for the IDA.
Senator Bill Larkin recently addressed the Orange County Chamber of Commerce on this year's legislative accomplishments.
