Senator Larkin Leads the Fight for Increased Education Aid in new Budget

Albany – Continuing his strong commitment to our local schools, New York State Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-On-Hudson) today was pleased to announce that the new State Budget for 2015-16 includes an increase of $1.4 billion in State Education Aid.

“A strong education starts by making smart investments in our local schools so that all children have the opportunity to excel in the classroom,” said Larkin.  “This major funding increase will ensure significant new investments in our schools, reduce pressure on property taxpayers and help chart a course toward a stronger and brighter future for our children.”

SENATOR LARKIN TO SERVE ON NEW TASK FORCE FOCUSING ON WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-On-Hudson) has been appointed by Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos to serve on a new Task Force that will focus on workforce development. The Task Force will identify ways to improve job readiness and employee training in an effort to create more jobs and grow the economy.

“Workforce development is a top priority,” said Senator Larkin. “I look forward to hearing from leaders in business, education, state and local governments, and other workforce experts in an effort to find feasible solutions to some of the problems our workforce faces today. We must do everything we can to ensure that individuals who want a job have every opportunity to obtain one.”

SENATOR SKELOS ANNOUNCES THE CREATION OF NEW TASK FORCE ON WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

Senate Majority Leader Dean G. Skelos today announced the creation of the Senate Task Force on Workforce Development and appointed Senators Jack Martins (R-C-I, Mineola) and George A. Amedore, Jr. (R-C-I, Rotterdam) as Co-Chairs. The Task Force will review the state’s existing programs designed to train both job seekers and existing employees for current and prospective employment opportunities, as well as help develop new initiatives to improve employee readiness, meet the needs of private sector employers, and create well-paying jobs to grow New York’s economy.

SENATOR LARKIN PROMOTED TO ASSISTANT MAJORITY LEADER FOR HOUSE OPERATIONS BY MAJORITY LEADER DEAN SKELOS

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-On-Hudson) has been promoted by the New York State Senate Republican leadership to Assistant Majority Leader for House Operations in the Senate.  In this new leadership position, Senator Larkin will be working closely with Majority Leader Dean Skelos and the rest of the Senate Republican leadership to create jobs, stabilize taxes and continue to ensure New York State government does not infringe on the rights of law abiding citizens.

SENATE PASSES LEGISLATION TARGETING CYBER TERRORISM

Bills Focus on Enforcing Stricter Penalties and Create Cyber Security Measures To Protect New York From Future Threats

The New York State Senate today passed four bills to crack down on cyber terrorism and its rapidly expanding threat to the state’s security and finances. The legislation, sponsored by Senator Thomas Croci (R, Sayville), would enact tougher penalties for cyber-related crimes, create cyber security programs to identify potential risks and threats, and require the state to perform a comprehensive review of all its cyber security measures every five years.
