Senator Larkin joins New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Senator Greg Ball, Senator David Carlucci and Senator Martin Golden at a press conference calling on the federal government to restore New York's homeland security funding which is currently slated for a 50% reduction.
Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) joined New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Senator Greg Ball, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs, in denouncing Washington's attempts to reduce New York's homeland security funding in the federal budget proposal. New York is slated to see a reduction of $186 million in homeland security funding should the cuts go through.
Firefighters from Kingston and Newburgh were in Albany to discuss their legislative priorities with local Legislators. They met with Senator Bill Larkin for a review of their top issues, which included the Triborough Amendment.
BILL WOULD ALLOW NEW STATE CERTIFICATE TO RECOGNIZE STILLBIRTHS
Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) announced today that the New York State Senate passed legislation he is sponsoring, Senate bill S.3111, which would allow for the New York State Department of Health to issue a "Certificate of Birth Resulting in Stillbirth."
"This legislation recognizes the ordeal which parents go through during this difficult experience," said Larkin. "It is a way for them to acknowledge the baby and the event that occurred at a formal level. They may even include the stillborn child's name on the certificate if they so desire," said Larkin.

An effort to honor military heroes that began in the New York State Senate 11 years ago has now resulted in the U.S. Postal Service announcing that the Purple Heart postage stamp has been classified as a “Forever” stamp, ensuring that it will continue in circulation.
The School Tax Relief Program, or STAR, was sponsored by the New York State Senate to provide a partial exemption from school property taxes for New York State residents who own homes. Since it was enacted in 1997, STAR has saved homeowners more than $21.5 billion. Now that STAR is fully implemented, more than three million homeowners will save nearly $4.7 billion this year.

" Specialist Thomas Wilwerth Military Dignity Act"
The New York State Senate passed legislation today (S.3901), that would limit protests at military funerals. Called " Specialist Thomas Wilwerth Military Dignity Act," the proposed law is named for an Iraq War Veteran who lost his life in combat in 2006.
New legislation that would allow more time for military absentee ballots to be mailed and counted in special elections has been signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo.
The legislation (S.3500) ensures that current state law conforms with the federal law requiring election officials to finalize and transmit the final ballot to military voters overseas within 45 days of a special election.

"The Air Force has made a terrific choice in selecting Stewart Air National Guard Base as the home of their new C-17 Globemaster transport planes. Placing the C-17's at Stewart will ensure the long term stability of the Air Force Base and is a great boost to the Hudson Valley economically," said Larkin.

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) wants to remind those individuals who have a pre-existing health condition but do not have insurance coverage that applications are now being accepted through the New York Bridge Plan. This new insurance plan covers individuals who have a pre-existing medical condition but have not had insurance coverage for the past six months. To be eligible, you must also be a New York State resident and a US citizen or legal resident.
