LARKIN REMINDS HOMEOWNERS TO APPLY FOR STAR BY MARCH 1ST

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) is reminding homeowners that the deadline to apply for the (Basic and Enhanced) STAR property tax exemption is March 1, 2010.

Basic STAR, which exempts $30,000 of a home’s value from school taxes, is available to all New Yorkers who own and live in their home. Assuming you do not move, you only need to apply for this exemption once.

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) joined sportsmen and women from around the state at the inaugural Sportsmen and Outdoor Recreation Legislative Awareness Day in Albany on Wednesday, January 12th. The event was organized to highlight the large impact hunting, fishing, and outdoor recreation contribute to New York's economy. It is estimated that over $1 billion is spent in New York in pursuit of these activities.

LARKIN ANNOUNCES PASSAGE OF LEANDRA'S LAW

Today, the Senate passed landmark legislation drastically increasing the penalty for any person who drives intoxicated with a child passenger. Two recent fatal incidents involving intoxicated drivers with child passengers have highlighted the need for stronger measures to prevent or punish persons who drive intoxicated with children as passengers.

Larkin Attends Inaugural Meeting Of BiPartisan Delegation Of Hudson Valley Senators

In an effort to ensure the Hudson Valley is fairly represented in all legislative matters, local Senators have formed a bipartisan delegation to make sure the needs and concerns of residents are heard in Albany.

This new delegation, which will be co-chaired by Senators Thomas Morahan and Jeffrey Klein, will ensure that legislative leaders have a firm understanding of what is important to the Hudson Valley when addressing legislative and budget issues.

Senator Larkin Cosponsors Legislation To Repeal Utility Tax Increase

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) cosponsored legislation that would repeal a new tax on utilities included in the 2009-10 state budget.

Senate Bill 6132 would repeal a new law that went into effect July 1st requiring individuals and businesses to pay a 2% New York State Mandated tax for gas and electric utilities. The money from this tax will be sent directly to the state's general fund.

Democrats Target Sportsmen With Higher Fees - $22 Million Hit To Upstate Economy

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) today spoke out about increased fees for hunting and fishing licenses.

"As sportsmen prepare for the upcoming hunting and fishing seasons, many are beginning to realize that almost every sporting license has increased significantly since last year," said Senator Larkin. "The license fee increases were included in this year's disastrous state budget, put together in secret by Governor Paterson and the Legislature's Democratic majorities."

Senator Larkin Pleased Rural Ulster Preservation Company Will Receive Over $1 Million In Federal Stimulus Money

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) recently announced that Rural Ulster Preservation Company in Kingston has received $1,019,242 in funding from the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA). The funds are being provided by OTDA's Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-housing Program through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Larkin Happy Postal Service Intends To Reissue Purple Heart Stamp In The Future

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) was pleased to receive a letter from the United States Postal Service (USPS) confirming their intent to reissue the Purple Heart stamp as postal rates change.

Senator Larkin had originally contacted the Postal Service requesting that the Purple Heart stamp be issued as a "forever stamp" to avoid the difficulties that arise when postal rates are increased. While the reply he received back from USPS does not commit to the "forever stamp" it does express their intent to reissue the stamp should rates increase.
