Larkin Calls For The Protection Of Veterans' Cemeteries

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) today announced unanimous passage by the State Senate of a bill he sponsored that prohibits cemeteries from selling veteran commemorative cemetery markers, flag holders, monuments, statues or other physical memorabilia that are over 75-years-old if these items are already located within a cemetery.

Larkin Bill To Assist Goshen Historic Track And The Harness Racing Museum And Hall Of Fame

The State Senate has passed legislation (S.1047-A) sponsored by Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) that would grant the Agricultural and NYS Horse Breeding Development Fund the authority to transfer funds that support the works of the Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame and the Goshen Historic Track.

Both of these institutions help to promote the standard-bred horse industry and harness racing in New York State. However, current law is not clear on whether the fund can disburse monies to either of these organizations.

Senate Passes Bill To Expand DNA Database

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) today announced that the New York State Senate has passed legislation (S.5848), cosponsored by Senator Larkin, that would expand the State’s DNA database to include samples from every person convicted of a crime. The bill will also improve the methods for collection and preservation of DNA evidence and extend the statute of limitations for cases based on DNA evidence.

Senate Passes Safe Swimming Pools Bill

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) today announced the New York State Senate has passed legislation he supported (S.1092) to make neighborhood swimming pools safer.

The bill would require temporary fences around swimming pools to be replaced with permanent fencing within 90 days. Homeowners can obtain waivers for an extension beyond the 90 days if they can show good cause. Another stipulation of the bill requires installers to notify the local building department if a building permit has not been issued at the address of the property where the pool is to be located.

Less Than 100 Days To Register For 9/11-related Workers' Compensation

 

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) today reminded residents that time is running out for people to register for the right to file for 9/11-related workers’ compensation.

Less than 100 days remain until the final registration deadline of August 14, 2007.

At least 100,000 workers and volunteers who performed any rescue, recovery or cleanup work in the vicinity of the World Trade Center are eligible to register with the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board. But fewer than 12,000 have done so.

Senate Passes Larkin Bill To Protect The Interests Of The NYS Thoroughbred Horse Owners' Association

The New York State Senate today passed legislation (S.2895) sponsored by Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) that would provide a one-year, one percent increase in funding for the New York State Thoroughbred Horse Owners’ Association. The increase would come from the purse moneys at the tracks and would increase the amount the Association currently receives from one percent to two percent according to the bill.
