Larkin Speaks Out For State Monument To Honor Congressional Medal Of Honor Winners

This week, Senator Bill Larkin reports to residents about an effort in Albany to erect a monument honoring state residents awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. Senator Larkin is cosponsoring legislation in the State Senate that calls for such a monument.

"The Congressional Medal of Honor is the highest award for valor that an individual can earn while serving in the Armed Services of the United States," said Senator Larkin. "The history of this award represents the tremendous sacrifices made by Americans to defend, protect, and preserve the freedoms we cherish.

Senate Passes Comprehensive Package Of Dwi Legislation

The New York State Senate today passed a comprehensive package of DWI legislation that will keep repeat DWI offenders off the streets and increase the penalties for drunk driving, especially drunk drivers that severely injure or kill innocent victims.

Larkin Bill Helps Late Farmers Receive Tax Break

In an effort to further assist the state’s farmers, Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) has introduced legislation (S.7224) in the State Senate that would allow farmers to obtain a waiver if, for certain reasons, they miss the filing deadline for an agricultural real property tax exemption.

"We make allowances for senior citizens who miss the deadline; we should do the same for the state’s farmers," said Senator Larkin.

Larkin Cracks Down On Auto Fraud Recruiters

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) has introduced legislation in the State Senate (S.7226) that would limit certain businesses from gaining immediate access to motor vehicle accident reports.

"The purpose of this bill is to limit the ability of unauthorized businesses from gaining access to accident and police reports," said Senator Larkin. "We know that there are law firms and medical clinics out there that fish through police and accident reports to identify potential clients. They approach these people and recruit them.

Restaurants Could Sell Ny Made Soju According To Larkin Bill

The State Senate today passed legislation sponsored by Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) that would allow vendors who sell wine to also sell a beverage called Soju. Soju is an alcoholic beverage made exclusively in Korea with an alcohol content of no more than 24 percent.

In addition, the Larkin bill (S.6259) would allow vendors to sell other alcohol beverages with low-to-medium alcohol content that are made from agricultural products grown and produced in New York State that have an alcohol content of no more than 24 percent.

Larkin Goes After Auto Insurance Scammers

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) has introduced legislation (S.7225) in the State Senate that would increase the criminal penalties for anyone who forges or possesses a forged motor vehicle certificate of insurance or insurance identification card.

"Auto insurance fraud is a serious problem in New York State," said Senator Larkin. "Law abiding consumers are literally paying millions of dollars more on their premiums than they should because of the illegal activities of others.

Larkin Announces County Option On Local Clothing Sales Taxes

This week, Senator Bill Larkin reports that the New York State Senate has passed legislation (S.7193-A) that gives counties across the state the choice of either eliminating or keeping the local share of sales tax on clothing and shoe purchases under $110 dollars.

"The state budget we just adopted eliminates the 4 percent state sales tax on clothing and shoe purchases under $110 dollars," said Senator Larkin. "This was one of our goals to help consumers and make New York State more competitive with other border states that have no state sales tax on these items.

Larkin: $30 Million In State Budget For New Occc Campus In Newburgh

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) announced that the New York State budget passed today by the full Legislature contains $30 million dollars for the construction of a new Orange County Community College campus in the City of Newburgh.

The $30 million appropriation from the state will be matched by Orange County for a total of $60 million.

Parents Would Learn Kids' College Grades Under Larkin Bill

Legislation sponsored by Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) requiring institutions of higher education to notify parents and guardians of their college student’s course grades has passed the State Senate.

The bill (S.223) would require all colleges and universities within New York State, upon request, to notify parents and guardians of a college student with that student's grades and semester grade point average.

"In most cases, parents are the ones providing a substantial amount of financial assistance to cover their children’s college tuition and other expenses,"

Larkin Calls For Answers On Recent Gas Price Spike

Senator Bill Larkin has called upon Attorney General Eliot Spitzer to remain diligent in protecting consumers from the danger of gas price gouging.

"Why has there been another sudden and extreme spike in gas prices at the pump?" asked Senator Larkin. "Crude oil prices have been relatively stable recently, winter has passed, the weather is warming up, there have been no holidays to cause a hike in prices, and there have been no storms or natural disasters in New York.

In the interest of protecting tow truck operators as they work on busy roads and highways, Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) is sponsoring legislation (S.1609) that would establish in law the proper procedures for approaching and passing stopped tow trucks that are helping other motorists.

"The nature of their job often puts tow truck operators in very dangerous positions on our roads and highways," said Senator Larkin. "Every year in New York several operators are killed or severely injured by other drivers’ excessive speed and bad judgement.

Larkin Pushes Hard For Local Labor Projects

Calling for the release of $1 million in labor agreement funding set aside in 1999 for projects associated with Stewart International Airport, Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) has appealed to the Governor’s office and the New York State Division of the Budget, for immediate action.

When the National Express Group leased Stewart International Airport from the state in 1999, it made an initial lease payment of $35 million.
