Senate Democrats hope to use stopped paychecks as leverage

This is the issue that Sen. William Stachowski, a Lake View Democrat, cited in his refusal to go along with the last budget bill. He wants to at least let the University at Buffalo start the financing initiative in a pilot program. And without his vote, the 32 Democrats would need GOP help to pass the bill. Republicans have so far balked at that idea.

State Sen. William Stachowski, D-Lake View, announces that he will sponsor a community health fair from 10 a. m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in Jeffrey Taggert Memorial Park, Wilmuth Avenue and O’Dell Street, Lackawanna.

Senator: NY DOT wastes taxpayer dollars

“We have a responsibility to every taxpaying New Yorker to ensure that their tax dollars are being used in the absolute most efficient way possible. When we find the kind of waste in state agency services that we are uncovering now in the Department of Transportation, it is imperative that we address this problem immediately. Every New Yorker should have the confidence that their tax dollars are serving a real purpose for the good of our state and of our local communities.

State must help its universities

The reforms are in Gov. David A. Paterson’s executive budget bill. The Senate chose to include these reforms in its budget resolution, thanks to a strong push by State Sen. William T. Stachowski, D-Lake View, and Senate Democratic Conference Leader John Sampson of Brooklyn, with support from the Western New York delegation. But the Assembly’s budget resolution cut out these same reforms and, worse, both chambers did not restore funding for public universities.

NRA and the Belly of the Beast

"Not all of the attendees were rock-ribbed Republicans, but most were avid hunters and outdoorspeople, mostly from rural upstate regions. One of the more popular speakers was the manager of the Remington arms Ilion factory who drew applause with mentions of the firm’s classic shotguns.

Historic Building Will Host Downtown Hotel Project

BUFFALO (wned) - The old Curtiss Building at Huron and Franklin will become the core of a new 57 room hotel, with the old and closed Continental nightclub leveled to be replaced by a hotel and amenities wing.A Restore New York grant of $1.3 million allocated by City Hall will help demolish the Continental. Senator William Stachowski says the total $14 million dollar Restore New York grant to Buffalo is the largest in the state.

GCEDC gets $1 million for early work on 'mega site"

The GCEDC vice president said it was a bipartisan effort by the Western New York delegation of the Senate and Assembly to get the funds earmarked. Elected officials who worked on securing the $1 million included two Republicans, Ranzenhofer and Assemblyman Steve Hawley; a Democrat, Senator William Stachowski; and one former GOP senator, Mary Lou Rath, who retired at the end of 2008.

The money helps underwrite concerts the BPO performs for area school children.“It was a pretty easy lift,” Stachowski said. “The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra plays a major role in our community.
