Medicaid Fraud Task Force Issues Recommendations

Albany, N.Y., August 2 – In his column from the Capitol this week, Senator Winner  discusses the fact that while New York governors and legislative leaders have been very good at convening commissions and task forces to study ways to address difficult challenges, these same state leaders have been far less effective at taking recommended legislative action.

Remember that earlier this year the eight members of the Senate Republican Task Force on Medicaid Fraud released an initial report and a series of recommendations for improving the state’s efforts to combat abuse, fraud, and overutilization in New York’s $52-billion system of Medicaid.


The task force believes that its initial recommendations point to annual savings of approximately $500 million and should be included in the 2010-2011 state budget.
