Albany, NY- Hundreds of supporters, well-wishers and other officials were on hand today to witness and take part in the swearing in of Senator-Elect Lee Zeldin (R, C, I-Shirley).  Senator Zeldin was elected this past November in a decisive 16 point victory in the New York State Third Senate District.

Senator Zeldin’s supporters packed two chartered buses to travel to the State Capitol in Albany to be a part of Tuesday’s ceremonies -- at no cost to the taxpayers.  Some supporters from the district even made the 400 mile round trip to Albany with their own transportation.

“I’m gratified that so many of my friends and supporters made the trip. My election victory belongs to them as much as it does to me,” said Senator Zeldin.  “Their overwhelming support for my message will be a tremendous source of strength and resolve as we begin the difficult challenge of reforming New York State.  They will be with me every step of the way.”

The Oath of Office was administered by Senate President Pro Tempore Dean G. Skelos, the new Senate Majority Leader.  Standing next to Senator Zeldin as he was taking his Oath was his wife, Diana, and his 4-year-old identical twin daughters, Mikayla and Arianna.

“The voters have made clear that they want a new direction for New York State.  I’m determined to change the way Albany does business and restore a state government that will make us proud. The voters want tax relief, spending control and reform.  They’ll support elected officials who deliver, and I am confident I will,” continued Zeldin.

Zeldin is just the third Shirley/Mastic resident to serve in the State Senate, following William Floyd, who was a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and former Senator John Floyd.

“I’m excited to officially get started.  My transition team and I have been working since November 3rd and we have hit the ground running,” said Senator Zeldin.  “I’m fiercely loyal to my constituents.

They will have no doubt that I am here in Albany to represent them, to fight for their best interests. My offices are open and running, I’m ready, my staff is ready, we’ve got our sleeves rolled up and we’re already hard at work,” concluded Senator Zeldin.
