Statement On 2011 Legislative Session
ALBANY, 06/23/11 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) cites a number of major accomplishments during the 2011 legislative session including:
• Early passage of the 2011-2012 state budget which reduced state spending, cut taxes, and provided real incentives for businesses to create new private sector jobs;
• A revamped low-cost power program called Recharge NY, the creation of regional economic development councils and the restoration of funding for vital agriculture programs to provide economic assistance specifically for upstate;
• A tax cap that will limit the growth of property taxes and help people afford to stay in their homes;
• Mandate relief measures that will aid local school and government officials reduce their expenditures;
• Sweeping ethics reform legislation aimed at restoring public confidence in state government;
• A rational tuition policy for SUNY schools that will help students and their families plan for education expenses while assisting campuses meet the changing needs of the educational world and offer unique programs that attract the best and brightest students;
• Major health insurance legislation that will ensure affordable and accessible care for more New Yorkers.
