RITCHIE QUESTIONS COMMISSIONER AUBERTINE ON AG BUDGET
Discussing Regulation, Ag Promotion, Flood Recovery and Proposal for Dairy Assessment
State Senator Patty Ritchie today questioned the state’s Agriculture Commissioner on proposals that affect farming in the governor’s proposed budget.
Commissioner Darrel Aubertine appeared at a joint Senate-Assembly public hearing on the proposed budget, and answered questions from Senators and Assembly members, who were looking for additional budget details.
The budget represents state government’s priorities for the coming year.
Senator Ritchie, who chairs the Agriculture Committee in the Senate, commended the commissioner’s efforts to cut red tape on farmers, and questioned him about proposed cuts to some marketing programs, efforts to help farmers recover from 2011’s devastating floods and a plan for a new state assessment on dairy farmers.
