Provides New Business and Job Opportunities for Service-Disabled Veterans

Continuing his strong commitment to our Nation's veterans, New York State Senator Mike Nozzolio announced today that legislation he co-sponsored has been adopted in the New York State Senate.  Senate bill S.6865, “Jobs for Heroes” is designed to support veterans who have a service-related disability.

“We owe a great deal to our Nation's veterans, especially those who have been injured or disabled while serving our Nation.  This important measure will help ensure that our
service-disabled veterans will have the opportunity to start a new business or expand an existing business right here in New York State. As State Senator, I will continue my efforts to honor the dedication and sacrifices of our servicemen and women,” said Senator Mike Nozzolio.

The “Jobs for Heroes” legislation provides State contract preferences for a business owned by a military service-disabled veteran.  The program would be managed by the New York State Division of Veterans Affairs and would set aside 6% of all New York State contracts for businesses owned by a military service-disabled veteran. This important legislation would mirror a highly successful program at the federal level and similar legislation that has been enacted in nearly forty other states.

“Just as our veterans recognized their duty to honor and serve their Nation, we too must recognize our duty as Americans to honor the profound sacrifices they made so that we can live our lives in freedom. Certainly, these individuals deserve every opportunity to be successful in business and provide for their families when they return home.  I am hopeful that the State Assembly will work to adopt this important measure without delay,” said Senator Mike Nozzolio.
