Cut the Cord!

that threatens New York jobs
The Champlain-Hudson Power Express is a 1,000 megawatt transmission line that originates in Canada and terminates in New York City, cutting off every major upstate generator in the process. It is essentially a giant extension cord from Canada. If this line is allowed to go forward, it will be the final nail in the coffin for upstate power generators who are already struggling to survive.
Luckily, there is a better way. I agree with Governor Cuomo, that we need to upgrade our existing transmission system by building an energy highway to allow unused power from upstate New York to flow to consumers who need it in New York City. This will create hundreds of construction jobs, maintain thousands of generation jobs and reduce energy rates.
Approval for the Champlain-Hudson power line is currently pending before the State’s Public Service Commission. I have cosponsored legislation (S7391) that would stop the proposed extension cord in its tracks and preserve upstate jobs.
