STOP THE ILLEGAL TAKING OF FLUSHING MEADOWS CORONA PARK - STOP 'WILLETS WEST'!

The Willets West project, which would consist of a mega-mall with over 200 retail stores, is set to be built directly adjacent to CitiField - on Flushing Meadows-Corona Park land. This proposal would entail the mass give away of public park land while simultaneously providing huge subsidies for private commercial development.

This may be a developer’s idea of the next best thing since sliced bread, but it does not mean that the City can brazenly ignore the law and give away 47 acres of parkland, worth an estimated $1 billion, for commercial development.

After months of protest, Sen. Avella alongside City Club of New York, Queens Civic Congress, several members of Willets Point United Inc., as well as numerous residents and loca business owners filed a lawsuit.  Last week saw the first hearing on this issue.

Sign the petition and join Sen. Avella in telling the City and its developers: Keep Our Parks Public!
