Thank you for your interest in the 6th annual I Love My Park Day!  This is Clay Pit Ponds State Park Preserve’s largest volunteer event of the year.  By volunteering you will help to improve the quality of our trails for people to enjoy for the whole year.

We will work from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm  this Saturday, May 6th, at the Nature Interpretive Center, located at 2351 Veterans Rd. W in Staten Island, NY 10309.  Attached is a map to the nature center from the Verrazano Bridge.  Make sure if you use a GPS to find us that you type in our address and not the name of the Park because that will take you to an office building about a half mile away.  We have a parking lot at the nature center with all free parking, and if that fills up there is plenty of free street parking around the building.

The biggest project for the day will be to spread mulch on the orange trail to help define it so people can see it and will not wander off trail.  It will also help to keep the stiltgrass from encroaching on the sides.  Another project will be to remove litter from the trails closer to the road, and if there’s time, from the edges of some of our Ponds.

We have deer ticks at the Park, so to prevent a bite please wear lightly colored long pants and socks that you can tuck them into, as well as hiking boots or tennis shoes.  Other important items to bring would be a sun hat, a reusable bottle to fill up on water, and snacks.  We will provide gloves, a drinking fountain, bug spray, and sunscreen.  We will be meeting rain or shine so if the forecast looks bleak bring a raincoat and boots!
