Sneak Peak at Freshkills Park

The New York City Department of Parks & Recreation invites you to the first ever public event at the Freshkills Park site!  Autumn is the most beautiful season to see the hills and creeks of the closed 2,200-acre Fresh Kills Landfill, now beginning their transformation into the City’s biggest and most fascinating new park, on Staten Island’s west shore.  Join us for a preview of what the park will have to offer!

A full schedule of programs, including canoe tours, birdwatching tours, workshops and guided walking tours (with park planners, landscape architects, landfill engineers, ecologists and anthropologists) is available online.  All scheduled programs are free but require on-site registration on the day of the event.

DIRECTIONS

By car | Parking is available at Wild and Beresford Avenues, near the Victory Boulevard Exit of the West Shore Expressway and south of the Showplace Entertainment Center. Free shuttle buses will take visitors to the event.

By public transit | Take the S62 Bus from the St. George Ferry Terminal (runs every half hour, on the half hour) to the intersection of Victory Boulevard and Glen Street. Walk down Beresford Avenue to Wild Avenue. Enter on foot or take the free shuttle bus.

By bike | Enter at the corner of Wild Avenue and the East Service Road of the West Shore Expressway.
