Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada, Jr., who also serves as Chairman of the Senate Housing Committee, is deeply committed to providing affordable housing to poor, low-income and working families.
Sen. Espada is also committed to creating programs that will help poor, low-income and working families pay their rent.
The economic crisis has hit these families the hardest. More than ever before, poor, low-income and working families are finding it increasingly difficult to pay their monthly rent.
Sen. Espada is introducing legislation that would freeze the rent of individuals and families living in rent-stabilized apartments, whose household income is $45,000 or less, and who are using one-third or more of their income to pay their rent.
This program will help nearly 300,000 households, close to three-quarters of a million people, in The Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan and Staten Island.
This program will keep more of your income in your pocket. Instead of most of your salary going toward the rent, you will be able to put food on the table and buy other essentials for your children.
