Kaminsky urges parents to sign-up for free car seat check
(Oceanside, New York) – Senator Todd Kaminsky, in partnership with the Oceanside Fire Department and the Nassau County Traffic Safety Board (NCTSB), will host a free Child Safety Seat Check for parents and caregivers. The car seat safety check will be conducted by a representative from NCTSB, who will instruct and show parents how to properly install and secure child car seats. The event will be held on Tuesday, May 24th from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at 65 Foxhurst Road, Oceanside.
“Many parents are unaware of the danger an improperly installed car seat can pose to their child,” said Kaminsky. “Motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for children 1 to 13 years old, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. These deaths are preventable, and we must do all that we can to ensure that our children are protected and safe. I encourage all parents to attend this free event, and thank the Oceanside Fire Department and the NCTSB for their dedication to improving safety in our community.”
"Education is key to prevention," said Chief John T. Madden. "The Oceanside Fire Department is happy to host this child safety seat check. In addition, we'll be offering tours of the firehouse and equipment to anyone that attends."
Appointments will be every 15 minutes and all attendees must schedule in advance. For more information about the event and to schedule an appointment, contact Senator Kaminsky’s district office at kaminsky@nysenate.gov.
