Join State Senator Velmanette Montgomery at the WomenUp Brooklyn Walk and Rally

2017 marks 100 years since New York State signed women's suffrage into law, just three years before the United States passed the 19th Amendment, formally giving women the right to vote.

WomanUp Brooklyn cordially invites you to join our first annual walk/rally to promote women activism in elections and everyday life. On Friday, August 19, 2016 at 6:00 PM, women of all ages will join us to honor the ratification of a woman’ s right to vote. This inter-generational event includes a power walk from Fulton Street and Marcy Avenue to Fulton Plaza at Fulton Street and Utica Ave .

WomanUp Brooklyn will feature empowering speeches, networking, voter registration and most importantly, the opportunity to declare publicly your commitment to improving the lives of woman and girls! It’s time to Woman-Up!

August 18th is a significant day for the woman’s suffrage movement. 96 years ago, Congress ratified the 19th amendment, which guaranteed all American women their constitutional right to vote. As we stand in solidarity with our women leaders, we will take action to move our communities and ourselves forward. Although women have made significant progress, there are still systemic and cultural biases that prevent us from reaching our full potential. It is our duty to protect our legacy while continuing to break the glass ceiling for young women in every way. It’ s time to Woman-Up!
