AN  ACT in relation to establishing the task force to explore the incor-
  poration of the principles of universal design for learning  into  the
  education  systems  in the state; and providing for the repeal of such
  provision upon expiration thereof

  THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section  1. There is hereby created a task force to explore the incor-
poration of the principles of universal design  for  learning  into  the
education systems in New York.
  S  2.  (a)  The  membership of the task force shall be as follows: one
member of the senate,  appointed  by  the  temporary  president  of  the
senate;  one  member  of  the  assembly, appointed by the speaker of the
assembly; the commissioner of education, or the commissioner's designee;
the chancellor of the  state  university  system,  or  the  chancellor's
designee; the superintendent of the New York state school for the blind,
or  the  superintendent's  designee;  the superintendent of the New York
state school for the  deaf,  or  the  superintendent's  designee;  three
representatives  of the department of education from different divisions
or bureaus, each appointed by the assistant or associate commissioner of
the represented division or bureau, of whom:  one  representative  shall
have  expertise  in  early  intervention,  one representative shall have
expertise in instruction; and one representative shall have expertise in
assessments and accountability; one county  superintendent;  one  county
board  of education member; five public school teachers who teach in the
state of whom: three teachers shall be general educators, one each  from
an  elementary, a middle, and a high school, one teacher shall be certi-
fied in special  education,  and  one  teacher  shall  be  certified  in
instruction  to students with limited English proficiency; one member of
the state university system, appointed by the chancellor  of  the  state
