AN ACT to amend the judiciary law, in relation to judges in  the  eighth
  judicial district

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. Subdivision 8 of section 140-a of  the  judiciary  law,  as
amended  by  chapter  500  of  the  laws  of 1982, is amended to read as
follows:
  8. Eighth district, twenty-six, PROVIDED THAT THERE SHALL BE  NO  MORE
THAN TWENTY-TWO JUDGES FROM ANY ONE COUNTY WITHIN SUCH DISTRICT;
  S  2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall apply to judges
elected after such effective date.
