BILL NUMBER:S2839 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the soil and water conservation districts law, in relation to authorizing a public information and education program for soil and water conservation districts PURPOSE: Authorizes a public information and education program for soil and water conservation districts. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 of the bill amends Section 9 of the soil and water conservation districts law by adding a new subdivision 16 allowing soil and water conservation districts to undertake an extensive public information and education program to inform and involve other public and private organizations and groups and the general public in the commitment to the principles and practices of preservation and conservation of the soil and water resources of this state and to the policies set forth in section two of the current chapter. Section 2 of the bill provides for an immediate effective date. JUSTIFICATION: Currently, 20% of the State's Soil and Water

Section 9 of the soil and water conservation districts law is amended by adding a new subdivision 16 to read as follows: (16) TO UNDERTAKE AN EXTENSIVE PUBLIC INFORMATION AND EDUCATION PROGRAM TO INFORM AND INVOLVE OTHER PUBLIC AND PRIVATE ORGANIZATIONS AND GROUPS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC IN THE COMMITMENT TO THE PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES OF PRESERVATION AND CONSERVATION OF THE SOIL AND WATER RESOURCES OF THIS STATE AND TO THE POLICIES SET FORTH IN SECTION TWO OF THIS CHAPTER.
