BILL NUMBER:S4235 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the executive law, in relation to developing and promoting senior center based domestic violence prevention programs PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: This bill would direct the NYS Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence (OPDV) to develop domestic violence prevention programs to be utilized by senior centers throughout the state. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section 1 adds a new paragraph to subdivision 3 of section 575 of the executive law. Section 2 sets the effective date. JUSTIFICATION: With a growing concern regarding elder abuse in this state, it is also important to remain aware of the occurrence of domestic violence amongst senior citizens. Senior centers serve as a gathering place for many seniors in their community, making them an ideal environment to offer domestic violence prevention programs. Paragraph (l) of subdivision 3 of section 575 of the execu- tive law is relettered paragraph (m) and a new paragraph (l) is added to read as follows: (L) DEVELOPING AND PROMOTING SENIOR CENTER BASED PREVENTION PROGRAMS; S 2.
