BILL NUMBER:S6705 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the environmental conservation law, in relation to hunting by crossbow in the county of Cortland PURPOSE: To permit the use of crossbows for hunting big game during the regular southern tier big game season. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Amends current law section 11-0907 to conform Cortland County to other counties for participation in the experimental crossbow season that expires December 31, 2012, or, if crossbow authorization is extended, the bill would expire on January 1, 2014, when last year's bill (S.1683A) authorizing the use of rifles for hunting big game expires. EXISTING LAW: Cortland County was left out of legislation permitting the use of crossbows for big game hunting. JUSTIFICATION: While crossbow hunting was extended on an experimental basis in 2011 for the 2011 and 2012 big game seasons, Cortland

SEWARD -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Environmental Conservation AN ACT to amend the environmental conservation law, in relation to hunt- ing by crossbow in the county of Cortland THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Item (j) of paragraph a of subdivision 2 of section 11-0907 of the environmental conservation law, as added by chapter 323 of the laws of 2011, is amended to read as follows: (j) Cortland County Deer, first Monday Pistol, rifle, after November 15 shotgun, CROSSBOW, through first Tuesday muzzle loading after December 7 firearm, or long bow only S 2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall expire and be deemed repealed on the earlier of either the date on which item (j) of paragraph a of subdivision 2 of section 11-0907 of the environmental conservation law is repealed pursuant to chapter 323 of the laws of 2011, or the date on which chapter 483 of the laws of 2010 expires and is repealed pursuant to section 17 of such chapter.
