LALOR -- read once and referred to the Committee on Governmental Employees AN ACT to amend the retirement and social security law, in relation to making membership in the retirement system optional for members of the legislature THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Subparagraph (i) of paragraph 1 of subdivision b of section 40 of the retirement and social security law, is renumbered subparagraph (j) and a new subparagraph (i) is added to read as follows: (I) WHO BEGINS SERVICE AS A MEMBER OF THE LEGISLATURE AFTER THE EFFEC- TIVE DATE OF THIS SUBPARAGRAPH. S 2. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD09032-01-3
