S T A T E O F N E W Y O R K ________________________________________________________________________ 7852 2013-2014 Regular Sessions I N A S S E M B L Y June 6, 2013 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. GABRYSZAK -- read once and referred to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to establishing a state-wide school zone speed limit for all schools located within the state of New York THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The vehicle and traffic law is amended by adding a new section 1629-a to read as follows: S 1629-A. SCHOOL ZONE SPEED LIMIT. THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, WITH RESPECT TO ANY PUBLIC HIGHWAY PASSING OR ABUTTING ON THE ENTRANCE OR EXIT OF A PUBLIC OR PRIVATE, ELEMENTARY OR SECONDARY SCHOOL, SHALL BY ORDER, RULE OR REGULATIONS ESTABLISH A STATE-WIDE SCHOOL ZONE SPEED LIMIT TO BE POSTED AT A DISTANCE NOT TO EXCEED ONE THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED TWENTY FEET FROM THE ENTRANCE OR EXIT OF SUCH BUILDING. S 2. This act shall take effect on the sixtieth day after it shall have become a law. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted.
