AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation to requiring emergen-
cy department personnel to conduct physical checks of patients await-
ing emergency treatment every fifteen minutes
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. This act shall be known and may be cited as the "New York
state patient protection act".
S 2. The public health law is amended by adding a new section 2827 to
read as follows:
S 2827. PATIENTS WAITING FOR EMERGENCY TREATMENT. EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT
PERSONNEL, INCLUDING NURSES, SECURITY, OR OTHER TRAINED HOSPITAL PERSON-
NEL, SHALL CONDUCT PHYSICAL CHECKS ON THE HEALTH AND WELLNESS OF ALL
PATIENTS WHO ARE AWAITING EMERGENCY TREATMENT AT LEAST EVERY FIFTEEN
MINUTES.
S 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
