BILL NUMBER:S3795
TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the highway law, in relation to
designating a portion of New York state route 98 as the "Veterans'
Memorial Highway"
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF THE BILL: To serve as a tribute to the
courage, sacrifice, and commitment of military personnel and veterans.
To honor and recognize all veterans for their service to the State of
New York and the United States.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1-Provides for a portion of state route 98 starting at the
northern end in the Town of Carlton, Orleans County and terminating at
the southern end in the Town of Alexander, Genesee County.
JUSTIFICATION: Military personnel and veterans are the backbone of
this great State and Country. Designating this portion .of Route 98 is
a fitting tribute to these comrades who have selflessly defended the
lives of millions of Americans.

AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of
New York state route 98 as the "Veterans' Memorial Highway"
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 343-aa
to read as follows:
S 343-AA. PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNATED AS THE
"VETERANS' MEMORIAL HIGHWAY". ALL THAT PORTION OF NEW YORK STATE ROUTE
98 BEGINNING AT MILE MARKER 1000-3081 IN THE TOWN OF ALEXANDER, COUNTY
OF GENESEE, AND TERMINATING AT MILE MARKER 1000-1156 IN THE TOWN OF
CARLTON, COUNTY OF ORLEANS SHALL BE DESIGNATED AND BE KNOWN AS THE
"VETERANS' MEMORIAL HIGHWAY".
S 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal-
lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system
as designated pursuant to section one of this act; provided that, to
avoid any confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce,
the designation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be
one of ceremonial nature and the official name of such highway shall not
be changed as a result of this act.
S 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets
[ ] is old law to be omitted.
