BILL NUMBER:S5599 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system in the hamlet of West Babylon, county of Suffolk, as the "New York Police Department Detective Peter Figoski Memorial Bridge" PURPOSE: This bill memorializes the bridge on Route 109 which crosses the Sunrise Highway in West Babylon as the "New York Police Department Detective Peter Figoski Memorial Bridge." SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 of this bill adds a new section 343-aa to the Highway Law, which states that a portion of the state highway system will be designated as the "New York Police Department Detective Peter Figoski Memorial Bridge." Section 2 states that the commissioner of transportation shall provide further installation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system as designated by section one of this act. Section 3 sets an immediate effective date.

The highway law is amended by adding a new section 343-aa to read as follows: S 343-AA. PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNATED AS THE "NEW YORK POLICE DEPARTMENT DETECTIVE PETER FIGOSKI MEMORIAL BRIDGE". THE BRIDGE ON ROUTE 109 WHICH CROSSES THE SUNRISE HIGHWAY IN THE HAMLET OF WEST BABYLON, COUNTY OF SUFFOLK, SHALL BE DESIGNATED AS THE "NEW YORK POLICE DEPARTMENT DETECTIVE PETER FIGOSKI MEMORIAL BRIDGE". S 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal- lation and maintenance of adequate signage of the state highway system as designated pursuant to section one of this act; provided that, to avoid any confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the designations called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be of ceremonial nature and the official name of such highway and bridge shall not be changed as a result of this act.
