BILL NUMBER:S5619 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of state route one hundred ten in Suffolk county as the "Assemblyman James D. Conte memorial highway" PURPOSE: To designate a portion of the state highway system as the "Assemblyman James D. Conte Memorial Highway". SUMMARY: Section 1 amends the highway law by adding a new section, 343-aa in order that the portion of state route 110 spanning from its intersection with state route twenty-five in the town of Huntington to its intersection with state route twenty-five-a in the Town of Huntington be designated as the "Assemblyman James D. Conte Memorial Highway". Section 2 directs the commissioner of the department of transportation to provide for "Assemblyman James D. Conte Memorial Highway" signage. Section 3 provides the enacting clause. JUSTIFICATION: This legislation is intended to honor the late Assemblyman James D. Conte, who represented New York's Tenth Assembly District from 1988 to 2012. LUPINACCI, RAIA -- read once and referred to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of state route one hundred ten in Suffolk county as the "Assemblyman James D. Conte memorial highway" THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 343-aa to read as follows: S 343-AA. PORTION OF STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNATED AS THE "ASSEMBLYMAN JAMES D. CONTE MEMORIAL HIGHWAY". ALL THAT PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM CONSTITUTING STATE ROUTE ONE HUNDRED TEN IN THE TOWN OF HUNTINGTON IN THE COUNTY OF SUFFOLK FROM ITS INTERSECTION WITH STATE ROUTE TWENTY-FIVE, KNOWN AS JERICHO TURNPIKE, AND CONTINUING TO ITS INTERSECTION WITH STATE ROUTE TWENTY-FIVE-A IN THE TOWN OF HUNTING- TON IN THE COUNTY OF SUFFOLK, KNOWN AS MAIN STREET, SHALL BE DESIGNATED AND KNOWN AS THE "ASSEMBLYMAN JAMES D. CONTE MEMORIAL HIGHWAY". S 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal- lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system as designated pursuant to section one of this act. However, to avoid confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the desig- nation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be one of ceremonial nature and the official name of such highway shall not be changed as a result of this act.
