BILL NUMBER:S7036 TITLE OF BILL: An act in relation to certain aid for the General Brown central school district PURPOSE: This bill will exempt, from the school aid calculation, the insurance settlement received by the General Brown School District, as compensation for losses sustained in an April 2012 fire. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1 provides that the insurance settlement received by the General Brown Central School District, from the Utica National Insurance Group, for the rebuilding of the bus garage and the lease of buses, shall not be included as part of the School District's school aid calculation. Section 2 provides that this act shall take effect immediately. JUSTIFICATION: This bill is necessary because in April 2012 there was a fire in the General Brown School District which caused substantial damage to their bus garage and destroyed their fleet of buses. RITCHIE -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Education AN ACT in relation to certain aid for the General Brown central school district THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, the aggregate amount of one million one hundred twenty-three thousand nine hundred and twelve dollars received by the General Brown central school district from the Utica National Insurance Group allocated for the rebuilding of the bus garage and the lease of buses shall not be deducted from the cost allowance used to compute aid for such projects pursuant to subdivisions 6 and 7 of section 3602 of the education law. Any amount due and payable to the General Brown central school district for school years prior to the 2014-15 school year as a result of this act shall be paid pursuant to the provisions of paragraph c of subdivi- sion 5 of section 3604 of the education law.
