AN  ACT  to amend the agriculture and markets law, in relation to estab-
  lishing microchipping standards

  THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section  1. The agriculture and markets law is amended by adding a new
section 111-a to read as follows:
  S 111-A. MICROCHIPPING STANDARDS. 1.  ANY  MICROCHIP  IMPLANTED  IN  A
COMPANION  ANIMAL  AFTER  THE  EFFECTIVE  DATE  OF  THIS SECTION MUST BE
COMPATIBLE WITH THE UNIVERSAL FREQUENCY STANDARDS, ISO 11784 AND  11785,
OF  THE INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR STANDARDIZATION, AND MUST RESPOND
TO A TRANSPONDER WHICH OPERATES AT 134.2 KILOHERTZ.
  2. MICROCHIP READERS USED BY VETERINARIANS AND ANIMAL SHELTERS MUST BE
CAPABLE OF READING THE STANDARDIZED FREQUENCY DESCRIBED  IN  SUBDIVISION
ONE OF THIS SECTION.
  S 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after
it shall have become a law.
