AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation  to  qualifica-
  tion procedures for bus drivers

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. Section 509-d of the vehicle and traffic law is amended  by
adding a new subdivision 8 to read as follows:
  (8)  IN LIEU OF A DRIVING RECORD AS REQUIRED BY THIS SECTION, IT SHALL
BE SUFFICIENT FOR A MOTOR CARRIER TO  INSTEAD  OBTAIN  EVIDENCE  THAT  A
PERSON  OBTAINED A COMMERCIAL DRIVERS LICENSE AFTER MEETING THE REQUIRE-
MENTS SET FORTH IN 49 CFR 383.77, IN RELATION TO DRIVERS  WITH  MILITARY
EXPERIENCE  IN  THE OPERATION OF A REPRESENTATIVE COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHI-
CLE, PRIOR TO BEING EMPLOYED AS A BUS DRIVER.
  S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
