AN ACT to amend the insurance law, in relation to requiring  malpractice
  insurance for engineers and architects

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. The insurance law is amended by adding a new article 81  to
read as follows:

                               ARTICLE 81
                   PROFESSIONAL MALPRACTICE INSURANCE
SECTION 8101. ENGINEERS AND ARCHITECTS.
  S  8101.  ENGINEERS  AND  ARCHITECTS.  AS A CONDITION OF LICENSING AND
MAINTAINING AN ACTIVE LICENSE, AND PRIOR TO THE ISSUANCE OR  RENEWAL  OF
AN  ACTIVE LICENSE OR REACTIVATION OF AN INACTIVE LICENSE, ENGINEERS AND
ARCHITECTS SHALL OBTAIN AND MAINTAIN PROFESSIONAL LIABILITY COVERAGE  IN
AN  AMOUNT  NOT  LESS THEN ONE MILLION DOLLARS PER CLAIM, WITH A MINIMUM
ANNUAL AGGREGATE OF NOT LESS THAN THREE MILLION DOLLARS.
  S 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after
it shall have become a law.
