AN ACT to amend the general business law, in  relation  to  requirements
  regarding the publications of advertisements in newspapers

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. The general business law is amended by adding a new section
335-b to read as follows:
  S 335-B. INVESTIGATION OF ADVERTISEMENTS. 1. EVERY NEWSPAPER, MAGAZINE
OR OTHER PERIODICAL OR PRINTED  PUBLICATION  PUBLISHED  IN  THIS  STATE,
SHALL  INVESTIGATE PRIVATE ADVERTISEMENTS PRIOR TO PUBLICATION TO ENSURE
THAT SUCH ADVERTISEMENTS DO NOT VIOLATE TITLE VII OF  THE  CIVIL  RIGHTS
ACT  OF  1964  AND/OR  OTHER  FEDERAL  OR  STATE  STATUTES THAT PROHIBIT
DISCRIMINATION IN THE WORKPLACE.
  2.  ANY  PERSON,  PARTNERSHIP,  LIMITED  PARTNERSHIP,   UNINCORPORATED
JOINT-STOCK  ASSOCIATION  OR  CORPORATION PUBLISHING IN THE STATE OF NEW
YORK, NEWSPAPER, MAGAZINE OR OTHER  PERIODICAL  OR  PRINTED  PUBLICATION
WHICH  NEGLECTS  TO  CARRY OUT THE PROVISIONS OF SUBDIVISION ONE OF THIS
SECTION SHALL BE FINED NOT LESS THAN TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS NOR MORE  THAN
FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS.
  S  2.  This  act shall take effect on the ninetieth day after it shall
have become a law.
